Why the hell do we have simulated environments, dimensional jumps, and aliens that would make George Lucas wet himself... but we don't have floor to floor transportation pads?

By using a stellar manipulator, of course. It alters the life cycle of stars. More commonly they're used to cause stars to go supernova, but they can keep a star fusing hydrogen in its core beyond its natural main sequence life span, too.

That and a bit of careful temporal manipulation, and our star system can remain as it is for a very very long time. A necessity for a civilization as old as ours.

And hey, he's pissed, he's freaking out because he's paralyzed which, regardless of how he is acting and has been acting, is kind of keeping him at super freak out level.
