In her version of whatever the hell happened, the portal closed before I fell through. [He's smirking, a horrible, bitter expression.] Her deal was to bring me back.

[He's frowning, then, remembering back -- watching Tony fly up, and up, and then all the Chitauri fell dead, and hoping, waiting, not knowing if Tony had survived or not, and that was when things changed between them, at least in Steve's opinion.]

Good for her. [A beat.] We weren't sure if you were gonna wake up, after that happened. The green guy helped with that, though.

For her I didn't. [He's rubbing a hand at his face, pinching at the bridge of his nose in agitation] I--I don't... Dimensional and temporal theory really isn't my strong suit, but this-- this is just.

For you, apparently, I woke up. For her? I didn't. So something happens, somewhere. Either she comes back and makes a deal or I... come back, again, and things change.

I know you can change, Tony. Even if you have to leave and come back to do it. I believe in you. [And he sounds -- surprisingly adamant about that, even if they haven't been getting along all too well lately.]

Okay, that. That right there is why this is really annoying. You do realize that I still don't actually know you, right? Just because you had your soul searching trip to alien invasion and come back practically proclaiming we should exchange friendship bracelets doesn't mean I'm on your wavelength, Rogers.

Well, maybe you should try a little. It couldn't hurt.

Actually, it could. Let's look at the facts here:

We got on this ship, we didn't trust each other. You knew my dad, I know you're Captain America, but other than that? Nothing. Then you leave for a few days, come back, and you're treating me like some age old friend you suddenly respect.

Few weeks later, I find out you were using me in some messed up attempt at getting information out of a psychopathic serial killer.

What, in any of that, would convince me to give you more than the time of day and the middle finger?

I don't know. How can I get you to trust me again? I'm trying, but I'm -- honestly, a little confused about how to go about doing it.
