And the fact that we're in a ship that doesn't work by any version of logic piloted by a guy who, let's face it, doesn't actually know how to sail a multidimensional spaceship. You could put a monkey in a hat and he'd be a better Admiral than this guy. Because. Uh. Comas don't just happen out of the blue, and who knows what kind of alien radiation we're all getting hit with. [... Yeah he's just really annoyed about this.

Still, he's just kind of rubbing a hand against his temple and the side of his head for a second, brow furrowed, before gesturing vaguely at the communicator.] So what have I missed, who's gone and who's new and how many crash landings did I sleep through?

You can either have a bunch of inventors creating bitterly under their sheets with whatever scraps they can find, or you can give them something to do in a place where you can keep an eye on them. And it's not the worst idea he's ever heard, but it still doesn't really sit comfortably with him, in that there are SO MANY ways it could go wrong, but.]

Yes. I'd want to screen potential members thoroughly before they're permitted access to anything dangerous, projects need to be approved at least by their warden, and any tools or equipment they may have access to need to be returned to a warden locked area when they leave. They should also probably be searched to make sure they haven't pocketed anything they shouldn't have.

Assuming the Admiral will even provide us with the workspace and material in the first place.

Still, Tony's crossing his arms and leaning forward on the table in front of him, glancing off to the side as Charles speaks and drumming his fingers against his arm. It's... annoying, all these hoops and rules and things he has to go through just because he's an inmate rather than a warden. And usually he just barrels ahead and does what he wants anyway (he's mastered the art of pickpocketing Steve's item, but he thinks the guy only lets him get away with it because he's feeling guilty over the whole first Loki thing), but that's, well. As much as he hates to admit it, finally accepting that he's been cut off from alcohol has also meant that most of the bad decisions he'd been so dead set on making were getting curbed, rethought.

He hates that everyone was right, hates it more than he can begin to explain, but it is easier to think things through, now.

It just also means he has a whole hell of a lot of time on his hands.]

Yeah, sure. Screening. Keep the mass murdering psychopaths away from the power tools, I'm okay with that. Probably also need a babysitter, since... [He waves a hand absently, dismissively, trying to play off the slight annoyance he feels bubbling under the surface because of this whole inmate schtick] Warden locked area or whatever. As much as stealing Steve's item's become a hobby, it's actually not that fun wandering into the forties and dealing with knob radios and sepia lighting every five minutes.

[See, here's the slight scrunch of his face as Charles brings up the point of space, of materials.] We don't need materials. You let a person with genius intellect and an itchy trigger finger loose on a ship, you let one screw fall on the ground, give him one plastic fork and a battery and you give them no outlet? You get things like the scrapbots, only worse. Because, uh, not every inventor on board leans towards the philanthropist side of the spectrum.

[Charles just nods, too worn out to really want to argue too much about it. He's battered and bruised, he's spent the better part of the week babysitting Erik, and he's still really not sure how he feels about most of what happened, so the fact that Tony's got a decent plan and understands how this needs to work is really a relief.

And he does trust him. Tony might be an inmate, but he was a good person, Charles had never really doubted that, and he wouldn't let someone plot taking over or otherwise harming the ship.]

I can volunteer as supervisor, if you want. Or you can find someone more familiar with the field, if you'd prefer.

[He's honestly just kind of eying Charles, like he's being eying everyone he's been talking to. With that quiet, contemplative intensity.

He might be clueless and not care about people on some levels, might have that assholish quality of caring only about himself, but Tony does have the brains to study people when he needs to, to watch them and try to figure out just what the hell happened and why everyone's acting like someone took an egg beater to their psyche.]

What, and pass up the chance to have a telepath as a psycopath screener? I'll give you a buzzer and everything. Green for at least a little mentally stable, red for no, Anakin, robot arm or not, you can't use us to go to the dark side.

Charles manages a quiet laugh. It's not entirely forced, and is maybe more relieved than anything else, because while he trusts Tony, he doesn't trust everyone else as much as he'd maybe like to, and, really, it's sort of nice to feel useful. Especially considering having things to do is a wonderful distraction from feeling crappy.]

I have no idea what you're referencing, but alright. [Way to make him feel old, Tony.] Do you want to make the official announcement, or should I? I'm sure some of the wardens will want to ask questions.

[He's starting to really, really think it is :c which is why he's worried but actively trying to remain indifferent and insulting. Goddamnit you guys, he slept for like two weeks stop going insane without him.

The fact that you don't know Star Wars has me reexamining my priorities, here. [He shrugs] I'll make it. If you say something it'll just be a bunch of people getting on my case anyway, might as well beat them to the punch and open a "Tony Stark is an Irresponsible Asshole" forum on my own.
